Serevi to coach the Fiji Deaf Barbarians 7's Squad

15 May 2018

FORMER national sevens captain Waisale Serevi will coach the Fiji Barbarians (Fiji Deaf sevens team) in their preparation for the next Oceania Pacific Deaf Championship in 2020.  Speaking at the Rugby for Change Seminar at the Oceania Centre Pavilion at USP, Serevi said he was willing to coach the Barbarians and was going to try to help make the first place after they reached third in the World Deaf Rugby Sevens earlier this year.

“I was talking with the team chairperson and he asked if I would be able to coach the team and I am more than willing to help them out,” he said.

Fiji Deaf Rugby Association manager Paula Ranatawake said he was very thankful that Serevi was willing to jump on board to help train the team.

“The association was pleased to hear the news as Fiji is expected to host the next Pacific Regional Games and even though it’s a few years away, we are ready,” Ranatawake said.  “Since it will be on home ground, we are positive with Sir Serevi’s help we can win.”  The Oceania Pacific Deaf Championship is expected to be held in Fiji in 2020.
